Officially known as the People’s Square, a lively square full of cafes and restaurants. This area was the first inhabited part of the city outside the Palace walls.
It was the home to the Old City Hall for a while, a building that is an exhibition center today, and it was a living hub for old noble families of Split, whose palaces are still there – Cambi, Pavlović, Nakić, Ciprianis, Karepić.
The oldest coffee shop in the city, Café Central, is located here, and up until recently, one of the oldest bookstores in the world, Morpurgo, which opened in 1861, was located here until 2017.
